The liver is a largest wedge shaped solid, reddish brown and very friable visceral organ situated in the right hypochondrium and epigatric, extending into the left hypochondrium.

It weight about 1600 g in males and 1300 g in females.

The presenting parts includes : 2 lobes (right & left ), 5 surfaces (anterior, posterior, superior, inferior, right ) and 1 inferior border, on right lobe present the caudate and quadrate lobes.

On the inferior surface of the right lobe of the liver gallbladder situated in a fossa, gallbladder is 7 to 10 cm long, 3 cm broad, weight about 30 to 50 ml in capacity.

Gallbladder is divided into 4 parts: fundus, body, neck, neck.

Liver help in metabolism of carbohydrates, fats and proteins, synthesis of bile and prothrombin, storage of glycogen, iron, fat, vitamin A and D.

protection by conjugation, phagocytosis, antibody formation and excretion of drugs, toxins, poisons, cholesterol, bile pigments and heavy metals.

Main function of the gallbladder to store bile, regulates pressure in the biliary system by appropriate dilatation or contraction.
